Q: What's the policy on refunding registration fees?
A: All entry fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. You may not give or sell your registration to another individual – if you do this it could result in your disqualification as well as that of the runner who uses your race number. The entry fee for this year’s event will NOT transfer to next year’s event, no exceptions. This policies stays in effect whether you are injured, have an unexpected business or family emergency, pregnancy, etc. There are NO exceptions. Q: Where/when do I pick-up my packet?
A: Race packets (race bib, timing chip, participant shirt, goodie bag) will be available for pick-up on Saturday, February 23rd,2013 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm in Central Plaza in Chinatown located at 943 N. Broadway, Los Angeles, CA 90012. Take advantage of the Metro Gold Line (Chinatown Station exit) half a block from the event site. Q: Do you have a race day packet pick-up?
A: Yes. We recommend participants to arrive on-site before 7:00 AM to avoid large crowds and long lines. The 5k run/walk begins at 8:00 AM and the 10k run begins at 8:30 AM. Priority will be given to pre-registered runners/walkers, but please plan to pick-up your packet no later than 15 minutes before the start of your event to avoid any delay.
Q: Can a friend pick up my race bib and t-shirt?
A: To ensure a registered participant receives event information and race materials (bib and souvenir t-shirt), we require a written note by the registered participant indicating their authorization for pick-up by another individual. Information should include full name, address, age, sex and signature. If a waiver form is not on file (no signature), the participant will have to be physically present and complete the form before receiving race materials. Thanks for your understanding and cooperation.
Q: What is the option on my application to run both 5k and 10k courses?
A: There is a 30 minute difference between the start of each event, and participants can choose to run both events. If you can complete the 5K within 30 minutes, you can run again in the 10k event and receive an official time. Indicate this choice on your application form. There is a $15 additional charge to run both events (you will receive two bibs). Only one shirt will be given.
Q: What if I want to change races?
A: Please inform the person at solutions that you would like to change races.
Q: What if I'm pre-registered but can't attend the event?
A: At the conclusion of our race, all no-show registered participants will have the opportunity to pick-up their bib and t-shirt from us at an announced date.
Q: Can I run the race if I am not registered?
A: We discourage non-register runners, and if you must run without registering, you should leave the race course before the finish line to avoid disrupting our registered runners and finish timers.
Q: What is the street closure situation on Sat and Sun near event site (L.A. Chinatown)?
A: On Saturday, 2/23/13, (Bike Ride) North Broadway, from College Street North to Bernard Street will be closed from 6:00 am - 9:00 am. On Sunday, 2/24/13, (5/10K Run, Walk, Kiddie Run) North Broadway from College Street North to Pasadena Avenue will be closed from 6:00 am - 12:00 pm. All the streets along the 5/10K routes will be closed.
Q: What is the last day to register online?

Q: Is there same day registration? If yes, how early can I register?
A: Yes, you can register on the day of the event. Bike day-of registration opens at 7:30 AM. The Bike rides will start at 9:00 AM. We encourage you to register early to avoid missing the start, but it's not a race.
Q: When will I get my number bib?
A: Bibs will be issued at registration. Make sure to complete the correct emergency contact info when you register.
Q: Is there a goodie bag for this event? Can I pick up the goodie bag after I finish the ride?
A: Yes. Goodie bags, t-shirt and medals will be available after the ride. There will a booth near the refreshment area to pick up your items. There will be a free Bag Check next to the Goodie Bag Booth.
Q: Will there be a bag check-in service?
A: Yes. Free bag check-in will be provided for all registered Bike Ride participants. You may pick up your Goodie Bag before the start of the ride, check it in (with any additional items you may have that fit inside the Goodie Bag), and claim your Goodie Bag after you complete your bike ride. Any items not claimed by 2:30pm will be donated. The Firecracker assumes no responsibility or liability to any lost and/or damaged items.
Q: Will the rides be cancelled in the event of a rain?
A: No. The rides will go rain or shine.

To secure a refund for duplicate registration, please provide proof of two registration payments. You will be refunded for the larger amount if you incurred a late fee. A: Yes. The 30 Mile Ride starts at 9:00 am. The 20 Mile Ride will start at 9:20 am.

Q: How long will it take to complete the rides?
A: Estimated times: 20 mile ride; 1 ½ -2 1/2 hours; 30 mile ride; 2-4 hrs.
Q: Are there bike monitors on course?
A: Yes, there will be monitors on both rides.
Q: What do I do if I have equipment trouble and need help?
A: A sweep truck will be available to pick you up for a ride back to Chinatown.
Q: How is the course marked?
A: Look for posted turn arrows on signs and route arrows on the ground.
Q: How will I stay on the route?
A: Pay attention to directional arrow signage at key intersections. Review and download the online map for reference. Check back often for last minute revisions.
Q: Do I have to maintain a minimum speed?
A: Ride at a safe pace. This is not a race. If you ride a pace of 9 mph, that should be sufficient for the 20 mile ride.
Q: Will streets be closed to vehicle traffic?
A: No. A portion of the 20 Mile Ride will be on the LA River Bike Path, away from traffic. For the balance of the route(s), you will be riding on public streets with other traffic. Please follow traffic rules. Be aware of other riders and surrounding vehicles. Ride safely.
Q: Where are the restrooms?
A: At the start, there are portable restrooms at the rear of Little Joe's parking lot. There will also be portable facilities at the Rest Stops. Feel free to use public restrooms along the route.
Q: Are there refreshments on the ride?
A: Yes, there will be a rest/refreshment stop on both routes.. At the finish, enjoy a post-ride Carbo-Load meal. Yes, we know this is backwards, but it works if you have an appetite.
Q: What will be at the rest stop?
A: Water, fruit, Gatorade, and porta potties.
Q: What shall I do if my bike breaks down?
A: Be prepared with spare tubes, air and basic bike tools. Ride monitors on bikes and/or vehicles will carry spare tubes. If you can not ride back to the start finish area...call (626) 600-6903...we will have a van pick you up.
Q: What if I get lost?
A: Hopefully, our ride map will provide good backup instructions. The maps will be available at the registration area.. Emergency numbers will be included should you have an equipment failure or need first aid.
Q: What if I get too tired to complete the ride?
A: Be prepared. The short ride is mostly flat with a few rolling hills (beginner to intermediate level). The long ride features a challenging course (advanced riders recommended). Q: What if I get injured on the course, is emergency treatment available?

Q: What should/can I do after completing the ride?
A: Follow course signs. You can use the bike valet service provided by the L.A. County Bike Coalition, pick up your Goodie Bag, enjoy the complementary Carbo-Load meal (please make sure you still have your bib).
Q: Can I park my bike after the ride?
A: Of course. The L.A. County Bike Coalition is providing a complimentary Bike Valet service. They will park and secure your bike which will allow you to roam around.... To self-park, bring a suitable bike restraint. There are random chain link fences in the area. Do not secure your bike to a store front gate or to a stranger's bike. .
Q: Can I ride my bike in Central Plaza?
A: Only to complete the ride into the refreshment and/or the bike valet area. Thereafter, please walk your bike after completing the ride. 5/10K Run
Q: Will the race be cancelled if it rains?

Q: Can I purchase a long sleeve t-shirt?

Q: Will there be refreshments at the finish line?
A: Yes, there will be plenty of refreshments and drinks for all registered participants (don't lose your race bib). In addition, there may be booth vendors serving food and beverage samples.
Q: Are strollers and wheelchairs allowed?
A: Strollers and wheelchairs are permitted. However, please be advised that the terrain is difficult and has challenging elevation changes. Please keep to the right to avoid blocking foot traffic.
Q: Can I walk the 10K event?
A: Yes, many of our participants also walk the 10k. For safety reasons, we ask that all walkers line up behind runners at the start of each event.
Q: Are pets allowed on the course?
A: Running or walking with your pet is permitted. However. for the safety of your pet and other participants, you are required to begin your event behind the regular runners. In addition, your pet must be on a short leash and with you at all times. Pets will not be timed.
Q: Will there be a check-in area service?
A: Yes. Free bag check-in will only be provided to registered run/walk participants who show their valid Metro pass or Metro Rail ticket on February 24th, 2013. Any items not claimed by 11:00am will be donated. The Firecracker assumes no responsibility or liability to any lost and/or damaged items.
Q: I'm a volunteer, can I wear our organization or group's t-shirt?
A: In order for Firecracker staff to identify Firecracker volunteers, we require that all volunteers wear the volunteer shirt that is provided. See your volunteer coordinator for details.
Q: Who can participate kiddie run?
A: Kids of all ages (under 12 years old) start at a staggered time. Parents can accompany their child.
Q: What is the distance for Kiddie Run course?
A: Course is an out-and-back course of approximately 1000m on Broadway, going northbound from the start line in front of the East-West Bank parking lot before making a U-turn at Bishop Road and returning to the start line for finish.
Q: Will there be any pre-race activities for Kiddie Run?
A: There will be a kids warm up activities. The warm up time is 9:30a with the start scheduled at 9:45a.
Q: Will there be any post-race activities for Kiddie Run?
A: There will be a carnival in the Kiddie Run area for all registered Kiddie Run participants from 7-11am, with carnival games, face painting, petting zoo, puppet show, etc.
Q: Where is the Kiddie Run area?
A: Kiddie Run area is in the East-West Bank parking lot across Broadway from the Central Plaza.
Q: Will there be finisher metal given to registered Kiddie Run participants?
